Inspired by the national dress of India, Renoir's Matisse division created a mid century modern interpretation called "Sari" featuring bold swirls of lustrous copper encasing an eye of luminescent enamel patterns in peachy orange, black and gold colors. As always, design and quality is unsurpassed and the magic of Matisse continues to transcend time and trends.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 3 1/8 inches x 1 3/8 inches at it's widest point with a 3/8 inch profile or height. Weight of the brooch is about 22 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Copper retains luster and sheen with minimal finish abrasions. No dents or improper bends to metal. Enamel retains colors and luster. No chips, nicks or cracks or rubs. No polishing done. Reverse displays original partial anodized finish. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Minor age related wear. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed "MATISSE" and "RENOIR" with copyright symbol. Circa 1950s-1960s.
