Sash pins were enormously popular from the Victorian era through the 1920s. Our example dates from the late Victorian period, incorporating hints of Art Nouveau design as well. Flowing floral and foliage swirl about in the wavy oval shaped brooch in a matte golden brass finish. The center features a faux amethyst (a favorite of the era) art glass oval, bezel set and faceted on front. Stone reverse is flat and secured by four prongs. Long pin stem is secured by a simple, age appropriate C clasp with no locking wheel.
The brooch measures a generous 3 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a maximum 3/8 inch profile or height. Glass stone is approximately 30 millimeters x 17 millimeters. Weight of the pin is 26 grams.
Condition is excellent antique. All components intact. Art glass oval free from chips, nicks, crack or breaks. Stone secure within setting. Pin retains shape with no dents or improper bends. Finish intact, front and back with minor oxidation commensurate with age. Pin shaft and C clasp strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent antique.
The brooch is not signed. Circa late 1800s -early 1900s.
