Six deeply scored high domed pods with beaded and triple tailed ends overlap at center forming a star shape in this vintage sterling silver brooch. Multiple punched holes, four at each pod corner and one in it's center (visible from reverse only) create interest. The holes at each end are actually used as link connection points in the matching bracelet. The organic presentation has us wondering whether these pods may be bugs, blossoms, fruits or vegetables. It has a southwestern feel as well -- Mexican to be precise. Whatever the subject matter -- we love the overall symmetry and synergy of this unusual grouping. Large and heavy, the brooch is professionally constructed and finished.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 3 inches across with a 3/8 inch profile or height (dome). Weight of the brooch is a substantial 46 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Domes or pods free from dents, bends, crush or collapse. Premium patina. No polishing done. All components neatly and securely soldered. Pin mechanism strong and secure. No damage / no repairs. Minor age commensurate wear. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of two of the arms are signed: "STERLING". No other marks apparent. Circa 1940s-1950s.
Note: We have the matching bracelet to this brooch. The bracelet is marked: "SILVER MADE IN MEXICO" . It is also is impressed with the eagle stamp and an unidentified maker's mark that appears to be a conjoined "C" and "A".
Keep them wondering and wishing. The silver star. At Cody's.
