Tortolani's organic / botanical themed jewelry reigned supreme during the company's original California casting years circa 1950-1976. Dramatic and dimensional with deeply textured gold or silver tone finishes, hand cast leaves, foliage, buds and blossoms were largely unadorned or occasionally hand set with faux pearls or beads. Metalwork was outstanding and became the identifying signature of Tortolani's work.
The necklace presented in textured and shiny gold tone, circa 1960s, boasts a central motif of layered, boldly curled foliage with varying degrees of texturing and select lustrous accents. Leaf tips are dotted with faux pearls. Five graduating flat chain links cascade, tipped with golden volutes, each encasing a simulated pearl. Bilateral flat chain links suspend the central medallion with closure secured by V shaped end bars and fold over clasp in complementing finishes.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 17 1/2 inches. Centerpiece is about 2 1/4 inches x 3 inches with a maximum 1/2 inch profile or height. Imitation pearls are 3 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is approximately 44 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Gold tone finish intact, front and back. No dents or improper bends to metal. Flat chain links free from kinks or pulls, maintaining shape and drape. All soldering secure. Faux pearls retain nacre and luster. Clasp strong and secure. Minimal wear. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the centerpiece is signed in familiar script along edge of uppermost sprawl: "Tortolani". Circa 1960s.
