Come fly with Castlecliff's doublewide dragonfly brooch. Two pairs of enormous lustrous jet black cabochon wings flank his golden armor plated body. Bug eyes and antennae complete the look.
Castlecliff, aka Castlemark, circa 1918-1977 began marking it's jewelry with the Castlecliff name in 1941. The "Talked About Jewelry" often featured large and unusual pieces. Two of it's most illustrious designers were Larry Vrba, formerly of Miriam Haskell and William DeLillo, who went on to market his own jewelry.
The rare dragonfly brooch presented, circa 1950s-1960s measures a generous approximate 3 5/8 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a maximum 1 inch profile or height. Wing sections are about 41 millimeters x 12 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 32 grams.
Condition is excellent / pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All wing sections maintain consistent jet black luster with no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks or breaks. (Examples this brooch have been described with Bakelite wings although we believe the material to be Lucite or some other resin material.) All gold tone finish intact, front and back. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin mechanism strong and secure. No damage / no repairs. Pristine vintage.
Reverse of body is signed: "CASTLECLIFF" copyright symbol preceding. Circa 1950s-1960s.
