We're mad for Matisse and it's magnificent mid century hexagonal "Geo" copper brooch. The textured cobalt blue / teal green surface is scattered with copper shavings trapped within a translucent enamel for a unique Matisse presentation. On each of the brooch's six sides, copper arms reach out, supporting lustrous copper ball bearings. A major mid century modern prediction from the masters at Matisse.
The brooch measures approximately 2 5/8 inches across with a 3/8 inch maximum profile or height. Copper ball bearings are about 9 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is a substantial 34 grams.
Condition is excellent / near pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All enamel intact with no chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Colors and copper cast must be seen in person to appreciate. No dents or improper bends to copper components. No scratches, rubs or discoloration. Copper has wonderful unpolished patina. All soldering / riveting secure. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Near pristine vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed in familiar script: "Matisse" with copyright symbol preceding. Circa 1950s-1960s. An example of this rare brooch called "Geo" can be seen in Burholz and Kaplan's book: "Copper Art Jewelry".
