Large, lustrous black enamel sacred cow brooch illustrates the unusual figural subject matter chosen for this '30s vintage pot metal brooch. Clear chaton rhinestones band between ears and embellish eyes while red chaton rhinestones punctuate nostrils. At forehead a red glass cabochon jewels. Golden accents highlight at bands, ears, eyes and nostrils. Substantial weight and spectacular dimension imbue an importance and significance to this remarkable rendering.

The brooch measures a generous approximate 3 inches x 2 3/8 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 1/2 inch profile or height. Red glass cab is about 4 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is a hefty 50 grams.

Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Lustrous black enamel amazingly intact with negligible wear. No chips, cracks or rubs detected. No touch ups noted. Hand cup set rhinestones intact, remaining brilliance with slight dimming commensurate with age. Rhinestone rhinestones retain color and sparkle. Red glass cabochon free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Some appropriate gold tone highlight wear. Wonderful aged patina. No dents or improper bends to metal. Pin mechanism secure. Minor bends to pin shaft not affecting function. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.

The brooch is not signed or the mark it obscured. We suspect it's maker was a noted costume jeweler. Materials, subject matter, construction and overall presentation suggest a 1930s vintage.
