Five large faceted oval cut resin stones in the most enticing bluish purple / violet shade pop as simulated pearls punctuate four leafy interspersed blossoms in this '40s vintage pewter tone brooch. The oval stones are heavy prong set, unfoiled and open backed.
During the 1940s and beyond costume jewelers were experimenting with plastic or Lucite stones -- in this example to great advantage. Reflective colors and glow in these finely faceted, molded stones rival glass. In tandem with the substantial pewter tone casting and gleaming imitation pearl accents, the brooch bespeaks what costume is all about.
The brooch is a generous approximate 3 inches x 2 1/2 inches with a 3/8 inch profile or height. Oval stones are about 18 millimeters x 13 millimeters; simulated pearl, 5 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 48 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Oval stones retain rich bluish purple shade and violet flash. No damage and very minimal wear. All evenly white faux pearls retain nacre and luster. Pewter tone finish intact, front and back. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin mechanism secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is stamped at north, south, east and west with single five petal blossoms. The maker remains a mystery. Circa 1940s.
