Glowing citrine colored faceted oval stones adorn the body and filigree wings of this '30s-'40s vintage brass toned pot metal butterfly brooch from Czechoslovakia. Raised metal beads retain remnants of white enamel. Bug eyes, feelers, antennae and reticulated body complete the fluttering figural. While this brooch is unsigned his "body double" in a different color combination can be see on page 59 of Carole Tanenbaum's book "Fabulous Fakes".
The brooch measures approximately 3 inches x 2 inches with a 7/16 inch profile or height. Oval stones are about 11 millimeters x 10 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 30 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All pronged stones intact and lustrous. It is interesting to note that these original stones appear to be resin. They have a wonderful clarity and glow but are not traditional rhinestones. Period pot metal retains brass patina with no dents, improper bends or crush. There are remnants of white enamel accents on raised metal beads, indicative of age related wear. We have opted to leave as original with no touch ups. Pin mechanism secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is not signed. It is cataloged as a Czech figural in the aforementioned book. Circa 1930s-early 1940s.
