Standing guard over a Persian turquoise colored intaglio, muscular, golden twin lions perched atop ribbed bases and gripping plumed scepters hold tight. Blue beads dangle. The molded resin oval intaglio (cameo reversed) features a woman's profile. Bilateral gold tone chains secure the necklace with fold over clasp. Design, colors and construction suggest a 1960s-1970s vintage.
Large, figural / heraldic pendant necklaces were popular during the '60s and '70s notably the Donald Stannard designed twin lion necklaces of the '70s. Although unsigned they were distinctive, signature pieces -- iconic Stannard statements.
The necklace presented has a wearable length of about 18 inches with spring ring clasp. Front piece measures about 3 3/8 inches across x 3 inches long including bead dangle. Molded resin intaglio is approximately 40 millimeters x 30 millimeters. Largest resin beads, 12 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is about 56 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Oval intaglio and beads retain robins egg blue color with no damage. All gold tone finishes intact, front and reverse. No dents or improper bends to metal components. All links and connections secure. Chain spring ring clasp secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The necklace is unsigned not ascribed. Circa 1960s-1970s.
