Berries within a berry. Leave it to Jerry DeNicola's namesake company to create this delightful, detailed study of the sumptuous strawberry. The '60s vintage gold tone brooch begins with a open domed crosshatch design, the diamond pattern or quilting filled in with coral colored glass beads, each topped a with sparkling clear rhinestone. True to form, De Nicola employs the most exacting construction techniques -- in this case each rhinestone tipped bead is stem set then soldered at reverse. Leafy gold tone foliage and sturdy stem top the berry.
DeNicolo began his company in New York City in 1957. Early on "The Real Look" was promoted, followed by the immensely popular Zodiac series. Beach / ocean themed jewelry is also noted. The company produced for a brief period, closing in the early 1970s. Due to this limited run, examples are scarce.
The figural berry brooch presented measures approximately 2 1/8 inches x 1 1/2 inches with a 5/8 inch profile or dome. Beads are about 4 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 26 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All beads intact and secure, retaining rich coral color. All rhinestones remain sparkly. Gold tone finish intact, front and back. No dents, improper bends, crush or collapse. Pin mechanism secure. Extremely clean. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed within an oval cartouche: "DENICOLA" underscored with copyright symbol. Circa 1960s.
