Rare, a pair and pristine! Handmade Renoir of California was Renoir's earliest mark (used from circa 1948-mid '50s). Seldom seen aluminum accents were incorporated for a very brief period of time during the Korean war. An example of this particular butterfly design is seen decorating a bracelet in Kaplan and Burkholz's Copper Art Jewelry book.
The rarely encountered butterfly pin pair presented features anodized copper wings with copper wire wrapped bodies and aluminum tipped copper wire antennae. As stamped, these pins were hand made with exquisite workmanship. Beautifully finished with attention to the finest details. Even the pin shaft is shaped to conform to the contours of the butterfly's body. There is also an unexpected hook at the base of each body. We are not sure of it's purpose but it is original to the pin.
Each butterfly measures approximately 1 5/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches with a 3/8 inch profile or height. Weight of each pin is about 8 grams.
