A feathered gold tone base with applied scroll work hearts at north, south, east and west frames a faceted rose cut, black glass cabochon in this striking plus size circular brooch by Freirich, circa 1960s.
Formerly Maison David of France, the company began manufacturing hats, dress ornaments and accessories in 1900. In 1922 it's United States name was changed to Freirich. Jewelry production began at a later date, with the Freirich mark not appearing until 1964. Many of the company designs were based on antique jewelry -- Victorian a particular favorite. Operations ceased in 1990.
