Created in 1935, Corocraft (aka Coro Craft) along with Coro's subsequent Vendome line were considered the company's higher end inventory. Long time right hand man Adolph Katz is credited with most designs / patents and was responsible for much of the firm's success as the number one costume jeweler in the world. From rhinestone Duettes and fur clips to enameled quivering camellias and jelly belly pins, Coro had an accessory for every occasion. Founded in 1901, Coro finally closed it's Providence doors in 1979 -- the result of radical changes in fashion trends. It had been a long and lustrous run.
The necklace presented (circa 1950s) from Coro's design patent pending period (1937-mid 1950s) offers a glimpse of glamorous old Hollywood. Wonderful burnished gold tone bilateral gold tone volutes sport baguette rhinestones at ends and over bridged hinge at center. Snake / serpentine chains with chain links ends and a spring ring clasp secure. From volutes, marquise and chaton rhinestone charm fringe dangles. Akin the Corocraft's Regency designs from the same decade, the necklace gives us a the grandeur of Hollywood's glittering golden age of rhinestones.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 15 inches with spring ring clasp. Decorative center spans about 5 inches and dangles to a maximum 1 3/8 inches. Volutes flair to an approximate 5/16 inch profile or height while center bridge arcs to about 3/8 inch. Largest marquise rhinestones are approximately 9 millimeters x 5 millimeters.
