Although our little guy remains nameless, we have seen others in his family signed "Austria". His design, materials, construction and presentation indicate an Austrian maker. Arched wings are formed with brass tone ribbon like pleating filled with clear chaton and baguette rhinestones. Antennae, eyes, body and "tail" are represented by clear chaton, oval and marquise rhinestones. Wings have wonderful airiness and loft. Reverse is extensively bar braced for added stability. West and east pin poles are reinforced with vertical bars. From front to back, we're confident our unsigned beauty is Austrian made, circa 1940s.
The brooch measures approximately 2 1/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches with a 1/2 inch profile or loft. Largest oval rhinestone is about 10 millimeters x 8 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 14 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All rhinestones uniformly clear and brilliant. No dark, yellow, cloudy, or dead stones. Premium quality Austrian rhinestones. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks to stones. No dents or improper bends to metal. All soldering secure. Brass tone finish with appropriate patina intact, front and back. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is not signed. All features are characteristic of Austrian work. Circa 1940s.
