Details. Details. Details. The Marcel Boucher we know and love. Boucher's ingenious reversible brooch allows you to glam it up with the sparkling clear rhinestone encrusted maple leaf or flip to win smiles with the more casual, finely striated gold tone leaf and adorable red enamel ladybug. Press the center pin tabs together to release the pin mechanism. Position on opposite side, press tabs again, align in side slots and release tabs to secure mechanism. No need to change brooches -- Marcel Boucher has you covered from day to night with his double delight.
Boucher trained at Cartier in France before accepting employment with Mazer Brothers in New York. In 1937 he opened his own shop where business thrived until 1971. His wife Sandra continued the business after Marcel's death in 1965. Much of Boucher's work is classically designed with the same attention to detail utilized in the making of fine jewelry.
The rare reversible brooch presented, circa 1955, measures approximately 2 inches x 1 3/4 inches with a 1/4 inch thickness. Weight of the brooch is about 28 grams. Clear chaton rhinestones are pave set with a center vein of baguette rhinestones. This side of the brooch is silver tone topped to better reflect the brilliance of the stones. Reverse is in finely striated gold tone with red enamel lady bug perched near tip. Detail and dimension are superb -- a worthy tribute to the talents of Marcel Boucher.
Condition is excellent vintage. All rhinestones intact and sparkly No dark, cloudy or dead stones. All silver tone and gold tone finishes intact. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin mechanism holds securely in place. Some slight finish wear on pin mechanism contact points. Ladybug's red enamel intact. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is signed on it's side: "BOUCHER" with copyright symbol preceding and the design inventory number "6348", indicating the brooch was created circa 1955.
