Rhapsody in blues. A magnificent melody of marquise and chaton rhinestones (many dentelle faceted) in wonderful combinations of blue hues hits the mark and steals the show in this '50s-'60s vintage headliner. The silver tone bracelet and necklace feature rigid layered centers, bracketed with high pitched marquise rhinestone crowns. Matching clip earrings offer a single pitch with complimenting rhinestones. The color choices and coordination are obviously the work of a talented designer who has blended aqua, midnight, Bermuda and cornflower blues in perfect harmony. Although we've been unable to unequivocally assign a maker to this unsigned beauty, it's quality is unquestionable.
The parure includes the necklace, adjustable to about 15 1/2 inches with rhinestone extension chain and wide grooved hook closure. Decorative center, including bilateral chain splits is approximately 5 1/4 inches x 1 inch with a maximum 5/8 inch profile or height. Bracelet is about 7 inches with integrated box clasp and detachable safety chain x 1 inch with a maximum 5/8 inch profile. Clip earrings complete the set at approximately 1 1/8 inches x 1 inch x 1/2 inch. In all pieces, large dentelle faceted chaton rhinestones are about 8 millimeters, pear shaped rhinestones, 10 millimeters x 6 millimeters and bilateral chain chaton rhinestones, 4 millimeters. Weight of the parure is approximately 92 grams.
Overall condition is excellent vintage. All stones retain colors and brilliance. No cloudy or dead stones. Breathtaking blues throughout. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks to stones. Bracelet safety chain and all clasps and clips strong and secure. Very minor silver tone wear on some areas of reverses only. All pieces extremely clean.
The bracelet does have a repair to the reverse. The two T bars joining the male section attached to the rigid center have been replaced with metal oval loops threaded through the T bar holes in the unslotted stone settings. The repair has been done with care and appears to be even more secure, albeit a bit less flexible, than the original bars. When the bracelet is on a flat surface you may notice that the one end of the rigid center stands a tad higher than the other due to the thickness of the connectors. This repair cannot be seen from the front and the slight difference in height is not apparent when the bracelet is worn. We have attempted to show the alteration in the last photographs. Repair is reflected in price.
The set is not signed. It has the characteristics of several higher end houses. Premium quality. Circa 1950s-1960s.
