Costume jewelry and Czechoslovakia, circa 1920-1930s. Glorious glass from Gablonz was being set into magnificent metalwork inspired by Victorian, Nouveau and Deco designs. Colorful enamels, painted beads, gilt work, and the ever ready rhinestone added accent. Faux was gaining favor and Czechoslovakia was poised to feed the frenzy.
The pendant necklace presented, circa 1930s, includes a wonderfully integrated bail and large pedant in complimenting bead and variegated brass tone. The pendant features leaf spears (perhaps grape leaves) punctuated with variously sized metal half dome beads or berries. Southern portion culminates with three unfoiled and open backed faceted red art glass ovals. The pendant is suspended by the original bilateral chains secured with a box clasp.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. No dents or improper bends to metal work. Glass ovals retain rich red color. No cracks or breaks. Facets show some slight feathering. Chain free from kinks or bends. Push in box clasp secure. Brass tone finish intact, front and back. No verdigris. Clean. No polishing done. Patina intact. The jewelry retains the appropriate aged appearance we appreciate. No repairs. Excellent vintage.
The pendant is signed on reverse: "CZECHOSLOVAKIA". Circa 1930s.
