The glory of the '40s. Liberal loops of bows, trailing with rhinestone encrusted ribbons gather a cascading spray of amethyst colored, faceted oval art glass blossoms, bound at center with an arc of baguette and pave rhinestones. Unfoiled and open backed purple art glass ovals are tulip cap set with additional tabs at opposite ends to secure. Chaton rhinestones are cup set, baguettes, channel set. Finishes are in silver and gold tones.
The brooch measures nearly 4 inches ( 3 7/8 inches) x 2 3/8 inches at it's widest point with a 3/8 inch profile or height. Oval stones are approximately 10 millimeters x 8 millimeters (difficult to gauge because of their settings). Weight of the brooch is a generous 46 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact, retaining much of their sparkle. Some expected aging of rhinestones. All amethyst colored ovals free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Original gold tone finish has melded into a mix of silver and gold tones -- a wonderful patina pattern. All soldering secure. Pin mechanism secure. Slight bends to pin shaft not affecting function. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Although one would expect a brooch of this quality to be signed, a mark could not be located. An obvious higher end piece. Circa 1940s.
