The big E. Known famously for it's glittering galaxy of glamorous jewels, Eisenberg began in the dressmaking industry in the first quarter of the 20th century. Adding rhinestone details to the gowns proved immensely popular with buyers -- so much so that Eisenberg began a line of jewelry in the 1930s. Early pieces were unmarked until sometime in the late '30s-early '40s. Eisenberg Original (s), Eisenberg Sterling, Eisenberg Ice and block or script E were among marks used. Although there are differing accounts of when the Script E was used, circa 1942-late 1940s is a general guideline. Neither block nor script E was widely circulated, rendering examples more difficult to discover.
The script E brooch presented, circa 1945, is luxuriously plated in rich, platinum toned rhodium. Variously sized marquise rhinestones form crescents around a central marquise. Raked quarter moons of pave set (so called ribbon or icing stones) line inner crescents. Dazzling detail and dimension abound in this weighty wonder from the experts at Eisenberg. The classics from Eisenberg step easily from the 1940s into the 21st century.
The brooch measures approximately 2 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches at it's widest point with a 7/16 inch profile or height. Largest marquise rhinestones are about 15 millimeters x 7 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is a substantial 32 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact and sparkly. Some minor age related dimming to icing stones. No dents or improper bends to metal. Rhodium plate intact, front and back. Pin mechanism secure. Pin shaft has slight bend not affecting function. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed in script E. Circa 1945.
