Sol Smith's company Capri of New York was in business from 1952-1977. For a time the jewelry was produced by The Dan Kasoff Company (Florenza). We think of Capri's designs as crossovers, many with a mid century modern slant. Often bold with wonderful metalwork, Capri incorporates a fresh take on fashion jewelry.
The atomic starburst or sunburst pin / pendant presented, circa 1960s, features eight boldly textured gold tone arms or rays emanating from a center peridot / citrine colored, dentelle faceted chaton rhinestone. We love how the texturing in the golden rays and the color and faceting in the dentelle rhinestone play off each other. Super strong design and effective choice of stone color and cut. Capri also gives us the option to wear as a brooch or as a pendant suspended from a favorite necklace chain.
The pin / pendant measures approximately 3 1/8 inches x 3 inches with a 1/2 inch profile or height. Dentelle faceted rhinestone is about 13 millimeters. Weight of the pin / pendant is 36 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All gold tone finish intact, front and back. No dents or improper bends to metalwork. Rhinestone retains color and sparkle with no chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Concealed reverse hook strong and secure. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed within distinctive cartouche in cursive script: "Capri" with copyright symbol preceding. Circa 1960s.
Be awed in the glorious galaxy of Capri. Keep it real with faux. At Cody's.
