With a 3 5/8 inch wingspan Castlecliff's dragonfly brooch nearly flies off the page! Four wonderful green marbled wings (think Mississippi mud) stretch out from his armor plated gold tone body. Bug eyes and antennae complete the look. We have seen this brooch described with Bakelite wings, although our tests prove inconclusive. Whatever material they may be, colors, marbling treatment and luster are stellar.
Castlecliff aka Castlemark, circa 1918-1977, began making it's jewelry with the Castlecliff name in 1941. The "Talked About Jewelry" often featured large and unusual designs. Two of it's most illustrious designers were Larry Vrba, formerly of Miriam Haskell and William DeLillo, who went on to market his own jewelry.
