Whimsical, wistful and wonderful. Jomaz, circa 1946-1981, was an offshoot of Mazer Bros., Joseph Mazer and Mazer. It created this darling enamel and rhinestone clown pin circa 1960s-1970s. His snappy enamel costume, with selected gold tone trim includes black shoes, pants and top hat, blue jacket with rhinestone lapel trim, green vest with rhinestone buttons, cream shirt and peach tie. His wide grin is enameled in cream and of course, his bulbous nose is red. Eyes and arched eyebrows are in black. In adorable innocence with arms planted behind his back, a bouquet of green, pink and aurora borealis rhinestone flowers awaits his sweetheart or...perhaps his audience.
The highly dimensional brooch measures approximately 3 inches x 1 5/8 inches at it's widest point with a 1/2 inch profile or height. Bouquet rhinestones are about 2 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 28 grams. An aside: The clown's oversized shoes and balance allow him to stand on his own.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. Enamel intact, retaining colors and luster. All rhinestones intact and sparkly retaining applicable color. Two or three clear rhinestone accents in buttons / lapel have minor aging. We have opted to leave them original. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Gold tone finish intact, front and back. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs.
Reverse of brooch's flower bouquet is signed: "JOMAZ" followed by copyright symbol. Circa 1960s-1970s,
