More than two dozen pronged, faceted aqua blue art glass ovals (unfoiled and open backed) sparkle along side clear chatons rhinestones in the huge, late '30s-early'40s vintage heavy silver tone plated pot metal oval brooch. Slightly domed or raked, the art glass ovals radiate from top, each accented or surrounded by twinkling clear round brilliants. A wonderful presentation.
The brooch measures a grand 3 inches x 2 5/8 inches with a 7/16 inch profile or dome. Blue ovals are approximately 11 millimeters x 10 millimeters; clear chatons, 4 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is about 52 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All aqua blue glass ovals free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Superb crisp color and faceting. "White" rhinestones uniformly clear and brilliant. No cloudy or dead stones. All silver tone finish intact front and back. This is heavy silver tone plate (similar to rhodium) used on quality pot metal pieces from the period. All soldering neat and secure. No dents or improper bends to metal. Pin mechanism secure -- wheel locks in reverse of conventional locking wheels. Pin shaft has very slights bends, not affecting function. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is not signed. Design, materials, colors, construction and overall presentation suggest a 1930s-1940s vintage. Premium quality.
