Castlecliff hits the mark with it's '50s vintage ancient inspired intaglio brooch / pendant and earrings demi parure in bold gold tone bead, rosette and rope settings. Wonderful molded glass ovals imitating carnelian are reverse impressed with the head of a Roman soldier or possibly Mercury, the Roman god of mythology. Castlecliff, perhaps most well known for head designer Larry Vrba, began as Castlemark in the late teens, was christened Castlecliff in 1941 and continued to thrive until the "costume jewelry crash" of the 1970s.
The set presented features clip earrings and a matching brooch that includes a concealed hook on reverse for use as a pendant on your favorite necklace chain. The brooch / pendant measures approximately 1 7/8 inches x 1 3/4 inches with a 7/16 inch profile or height. Molded glass oval intaglio is about 25 millimeters x 18 millimeters. Clip earrings are approximately 1 1/4 inches x 1 inch x 3/4 inch. Intaglios are about 18 millimeters x 13 millimeters. Weight of the pin / pendant and earrings set is 36 grams.
Condition is excellent / near pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All glass ovals free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Even, matched carnelian color. All gold tone finish intact, fronts and backs. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin mechanism, pendant hook and earring clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Near pristine vintage. Reverse of each original earring clip signed: "CASTLECLIFF". Reverse of brooch / pendant signed: "CASTLECLIFF". Circa 1950s-1960s.
