Mid century modern Boucher at it's best. While Marcel Boucher's earlier designs were often reflective of famous fine jewels a la vintage Cartier where he had previously worked, the 1950s ushered in a much more contemporary look at the trends of the day.
Presented is an example of the "other side" of Boucher. Selected undulating nail head spokes terminate in pronged pink and Burmese red brilliants in the inverted question mark / plume brooch and matching shield style earrings. The Burmese ruby red colored art glass stones, brilliant full cuts reminiscent of fine gems, are signature stone cuts in many of Boucher's pieces from this period. A beautiful finishing touch to this new look from vintage Boucher.
The brooch measures approximately 2 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 5/16 inch profile or height. Clip earrings are about 1 inch across. Largest brilliant full cuts are approximately 3 millimeters. Weight of the brooch and earrings set is 22 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Rhinestones and art glass stones retain colors and sparkle. No dents, improper bends, crush or collapse of metal components. Gold tone finish intact, fronts and backs. Pin mechanism and earrings clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. Minimal wear, primarily on inside of earring paddles. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed: "BOUCHER" preceded by copyright symbol. There is also an inventory stamp that appears to be either 5811 or 5817, indicative in conjunction with the copyright mark, that the set dates to circa 1955-1959. The matching earrings do not appear to include the Boucher name but have a faint inventory number stamped on reverse near crux of clip.
