Francisco (Frank) Rebajes, one of the preeminent modernist copper jewelers of the mid century (along with Renoir / Matisse) created this delightful cast and jigsaw cut anodized copper double fish pin circa 1940s. An example (albeit facing west rather than east, as presented) can be seen in Burkholz's and Kaplan's book "Copper A Different Lustre".
The brooch measures approximately 2 5/8 inches x 2 3/8 inches with a 1/2 inch profile or belly dome. Weight of the brooch is about 26 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. No dents, improper bends, crush or collapse. Wonderful anodized copper finish with age appropriate patina. No stains or abrasions. As preferred by most, no polishing has been done. Pin shaft has slight bend not affecting function. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed in distinctive font: "REbajES". Circa 1940s -- perhaps early- mid '50s.
Rebajes. The first master of copper art jewelry. Swim with his fishes. At Cody's.
