BSK, so named for the B. Steinberg - Kaslo Co. of New York operated from about 1948 to the early '80s. It is known for it's interesting color combinations, exemplified by the '60s vintage pin / pendant presented. The large Maltese cross is set with a huge center unfoiled and open backed cranberry red art glass chaton. Arms are embellished with fuchsia chaton rhinestones and turquoise colored beads. Reverse of the gold tone cross brooch also features a hook at top for use as a pendant on your favorite chain.
The cross measures about 2 inches across with a 1/2 inch profile or height. Large center stone is approximately 20 millimeters; fuchsia chatons, about 5 millimeters. Weight of the pin / pendant is 32 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Center stone free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All rhinestones intact, retaining color and brilliance. No dark, cloudy or dead stones. All imitation turquoise beads intact , retaining color. Gold tone finish intact, front and back with expected time commensurate patina. Pin mechanism and pendant hook strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed: "BSK" preceded by copyright symbol. Circa 1960s.
