Coro flies high with it's 1940's vintage jeweled bug pin. In vermeil (gold over sterling silver) the winged wonder's body is set with a large six sided, golden topaz colored specialty art glass stone (unfoiled and open backed). An additional oval art glass stone in peridot is utilized for it's head. Two clear accent chaton rhinestone represent eyes. At rear, a blue baguette rhinestone shares the stage with a single red and a pair of clear chaton rhinestones. A little whimsy and a lot of wow make Coro's creature the perfect pin pal.
The insect measures a generous approximate 3 inches x 2 3/4 inches with a 7/16 inch profile or height. Large center stone is about 27 millimeters x 21 millimeters; oval glass stone, approximately 10 millimeters x 8 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 18 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All art glass and rhinestones free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Beautiful faceting, colors and sparkle. No dead stones. Vermeil finish intact with tiny amounts of loss on edges of wings, prongs, sides of settings and reverse -- this may simply be tarnish as no polishing nor abrasive cleaning has been done. Patina has been left intact -- polishing of vintage jewelry is left, as preferred by most, to the discretion of the buyer. All soldering secure. Pin mechanism secure. Pin shaft has some bends not affecting function. Wings retain undulating shapes. Clean. No damage (other than pin shaft bends) no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is signed on reverse within a rectangular cartouche: "Coro" in familiar script underscored with "STERLING CRAFT". Circa 1940s.
