Laguna, manufactured by Royal Craftsmen, Inc. of New York City from about 1944 through the 1970s, is known for premium bead jewelry. Necklace and earrings sets, in particular remained popular throughout the company's run. Top quality design, materials and workmanship trademarked Laguna's jewelry.
The set presented, circa 1950s-1960s features the necklace with graduated diamond shaped, crystal clear glass beads capped with japanned crowns. Saucer beads space accented with black glass seed beads. Extension beads feature delicate filigree japanned caps. A hook provides closure. Matching silver tone clip earrings complete the demi. Interestingly, the earrings' wired crystals have a silvery aurora borealis finish. Since the glass crystals are clustered together the ab finish helps enhance sparkle. The beads are capped with identical black (japanned) crowns and accent seed beads used in the necklace.
The necklace is adjustable to about 16 inches with beaded extension tail and hook closure. Largest diamond shaped crystal bead is approximately 17 millimeters x 14 millimeters. Clip earring are about 3/4 inch across with a 9/16 inch profile or height. Largest crystal bead is approximately 14 millimeters x 10 millimeters. Weight of the necklace and earrings set is 44 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All glass beads free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All japanned (akin to matte black enamel) finish intact. No rubs or fade. Stringing and wiring appears secure. Earring clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Original necklace hook is signed: "LAGUNA". The earring are not signed but are a definite part of the set. Circa 1950s-1960s.
