Circle Jewelry Products of New York City and Providence, formed by Ben Gartner, used the Goldette trademark from about 1958-1977. Although this example is unsigned it's style, design, materials and construction render it undeniably Goldette. Many of the company's designs were based on a Victorian, Asian or in this case, Egyptian Revival theme. Faceted glass crystals, when used, were often colette set, allowing light to pass through, thus enhancing color and sparkle. Expertly worked metal often utilized antiqued gold tone finish. Pieces made broad statements yet maintained perfect punctuation. From the frivolous '50s to the spartan '70s, Goldette bridged the gap beautifully.
The bib necklace presented, circa 1960s-'70s features square, antiqued gold tone filigreed plaques or panels with colette set centers of faceted purple glass rounds. The stones (bezel fronts and prong reverses) are unfoiled and open backed. Each panel is connected with jump rings for premium fit and feel. At center, necklace forms a "V" bib via graduated panels. Colette set, faux amethyst crystals dangle from selected panels. A hook and charmed extension chain secure.
The necklace is adjustable to about 15 1/2 inches. Each panel is approximately 13/16 inch square. At center, bib measures about 4 1/4 inches from top to bottom. Glass crystals are approximately 8 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is 50 grams.
