For your consideration, a fine mid-century carved hardwood plaque created in the likeness of an Asian woman. The Asian motif was a popular motif in mid-twentieth century decorative art and this fine example of mid century woodcarving, signed "XV MC `54", displays supremely modernist aesthetics. The woman's face displays elegant lines and form and the stylized chisel work is exceptional. The piece is most probably of American origin and is created in a hardwood, possibly cherry or mahogany. The work, in excellent condition with no damage or repairs, measures 10 ½" x 5 1/8" x ¾". A noteworthy example of mid century woodcraft that shows well in a both a traditional or a modernist environment.
