For your consideration, a phenomenally well drafted and intricately rendered unsigned watercolor of the Soviet Union's Red Square, most probably circa 1970's. The painting has qualities associated with Russian lacquer and tempera paintings; the work is rich in architectural details and other environmental features, many of which are highlighted with thickly applied pigment in the manner of lacquer painting. Additionally, the painting has a distinctly modernist feeling in the minimalist composition of the Kremlin barricade and industrial factories in the composition's background. The watercolor measures 14 1/2" x9 1/2" (19 ½" x 14" framed) and is excellent condition with no foxing or stains. This Soviet Era work shows wonderfully in a mid-century environment.
