For your consideration, a glazed terra cotta tile in the Byzantine manner, circa 1960's-1970's. The work is most probably of Italian origin and features two raised medallions representing early Byzantine coins. It is noteworthy for its heavy and rich gold glaze. The tile measures 19.5 cm x 11.5cm x 2cm (1 1/2 lbs) and is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or repairs; the piece shows some orange under glaze and evidence of some minor corrosion (see photos). This highly aesthetic work looks wonderful on a small stand, or can be easily modified with a hook assembly to enable wall display. Great imbedded in a fireplace aggregate!
