I have yet to identify the creator or this fabulous pastel portrait of a fisherman, but I suspect the work is Flemish or Scandinavian in origin, and most certainly circa 1935-1955. The signature looks like "J. Rykhoek", or "Trukhork", but your guess might be better than mine. The work is expertly rendered, with strong vibrant colors that are predominantly in shades of white, ochre, browns, pinks and sea foam greens and blues. The work measures 19" x 12 ½", and it is in its original 26 ½" x 18 ½" period wood frame (the pebbled mat is very aesthetic, as well). The pastel is in excellent condition with no loss of color, foxing, or any other damage or repairs. The piece exhibits a wonderful vibe and presence and looks wonderful in every environment; from traditional to mid-century modern!
