For your consideration, a fine Japanese butterfly and floral tempera on paper painting with artist signature and poem. Though the artist's signature has not been identified, the poem reads, "In the Spring, two butterflies are flying and softens the wind". The work exhibits exquisite rending; fine details, and the colors are elegantly vibrant and subtle, with gold highlights, clean whites and a sophisticated pastel pallet. The work is on handmade paper and measures 16" x 11 7/8" and is in excellent condition with no damage, repairs, or foxing. The original period gilt on wood frame measures 21" x 17" and is, likewise, in excellent condition. From the collection of a Northern California artist and art collector.
