For your consideration, a rare circa 1950-1960's redwood burl tic-tac-toe game board from Northern California. This very fine example of folk art was found in the California coastal community of Mendocino, a bohemian artist community that represented the apex of the 1960's -70's "back to the land" movement. The burl used to create this piece is old-growth redwood is over 1000 years old and measures 11 ½" x 6 ½" x ¾". The work exhibits asymmetrical design aesthetics, precise carving, exceptionally deep redwood colors, and graphic grain. One of the finest examples of Northern California folk art that I have found in my years of collecting, and of museum grade.
