This rare hand-woven basket was found in the Northern California fishing community of Fort Bragg (founded 1856). Composed of tightly knotted and woven light rope (fishing line?) and stiffened with what appears to be shellac it is most probably created for nautical-related tasks. It appears to have been created in the late 19th to early 20th century, and is good vintage condition, with some cracking to its upper rim, and minor loss of material to the same area (pictured). It measures 9" in diameter and is 3" tall and is a brown-honey color. The two-tiered trim areas are very unique.
