Modernist Studio Vase For your consideration, an intriguing mid-century studio vase circa 1940's-1970's. This highly stylized piece is noteworthy for its rich blue glaze over red clay, its unusual modernist shape, and its incised geometric patterns. The piece measures 12 ¼" tall, 6" wide, and 3" deep, and was found in Monterey Peninsula in Pacific Grove, California, close to the architectural masterpiece Asilomar. The signature, in the arts and crafts tradition, could be read "FH", "SH" or possible "AH". The work is in excellent condition with no flaws or chips. This is one of the most unusual modernist ceramic works I have found in my collecting, and possibly a significant California studio work.
