For your consideration, a fused clear glass nest bowl by master glassblower Drew Smith and dated 1984. Measuring approximately 6 ½" wide and 3" tall the bowl and weighs 2 lbs. The work is created in free-form fused clear glass, with an expertly finished pontile. The piece is signed "Smith" "'84", and is superb condition, with no chips or signs of wear. Smith utilized free-flowing fused glass on many of his early 1980's works and this fine piece is noteworthy for its flowing optically pure clear glass over a geometrically precise oval bowl. This artfully designed and crafted art piece looks elegant and vital from every angle, and in all types of light. Drew Smith (1958-2008) was one of the leading glassblowers to come out of Ohio – his pieces have been exhibited throughout the US and, Europe and Japan. Smith graduated with his B.A. from Ashland University in Ohio. He learned glass making from Henry Halem at Kent State University where he was a graduate assistant. He taught glassblowing at Columbus College of Art and Design from 1981 to 1986. His work is part of the permanent collection in both the Corning Museum and the Smithsonian Institution.
