For your consideration, a late 1940's-1950 watercolor by Bay Area painter Dorothy Lotts. A carousel horse is the subject of this exceptionally fine watercolor which measures 22 7/8" x 16 ½". The work exhibits expert paint handling and is excellent condition, save for some creasing of the paper on the top left (creases created prior to the painting's original framing). The work is signed "Lotts" and, although not notated, the painting can be dated by the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper (Dated 1950) that was used as backing material within the frame (see photos). Dorothy Lotts was a San Francisco Bay Area artist that created works prior to, yet in anticipation of, the Bay Area Abstract Expressionist and Figurative Movement. Noteworthy is the motion and animation exhibited in this fine painting, and its execution is first-rate. Lotts work has be sold on auction at Bonham- Butterfields, San Francisco. This fine painting is a spirited and elegant work that would look striking in a mid-century modern environment, and wonderful in a child's room.
