For your consideration, and etching by Agnes W. Crowley entitled “Carousel of Centaurs”. The finely etched work, circa 1980, is #1 of an edition of 100, and therefore, the most coveted of the edition. The unframed etching measures 11” x 8 ¼” and is in its original 20” x 15 ½” matt. The work is in excellent condition with no stains, foxing, or creases, some denting at corners of matt (can be cropped when frame). Being the first pressing, the work displays the finest etching qualities of the series. The etching is signed, dated, and titled in pencil,
with artist label on the verso.
Agnes W. Crowley attended Washington University (Saint Louis) School of Fine Art, on a full scholarship, where she emphasized drawing and painting.
After her second year in college, Agnes traveled to Paris, France, where she was admitted by competition to L’Ecole des Beaux Arts for the 1958-1959 season. While there she concentrated on drawing in the Louvre and in the studio, water color impressions of street scenes around Paris, and oil painting in class. In 1959 she was accepted at the Grande Chaumiere where she painted under the supervision of Henri Goetz. She was respected and critiqued by her professors, and produced a remarkable volume of work while there. Upon her return to Saint Louis, Agnes graduated from Washington University with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 1962. She attended University of Missouri School of Fine Art, Master of Fine Art Program, beginning in 1976. Working under Professor John Weller, she emphasized printmaking. Working under Professor Ollie Schucard, she emphasized photography and photo-intaglio. She graduated with a Master of Fine Art Degree in 1982. She produced commissioned artwork for the University of Missouri and taught printmaking there as an instructor in 1983-84. She has exhibited in galleries in Columbia and Kansas City, Missouri, in Boston, and, as a member of the League of Women Artists, she has exhibited her work across the United States. She has also exhibited in Europe, especially the Netherlands. Currently she is exhibiting in The Gathering Artists Gallery in Bernalillo, New Mexico.
