For your consideration, an early 20th century portrait of a young woman rendered in the Pre Raphaelite manner. The oil on linen painting measures 14” x 11” , 16 ¾” x 13 ¾” in its gilt wood frame. The work is noteworthy for its atmospheric color palette and lyrical paint handing. Although unsigned, the work is notated on the wood frame “J. R. Martin Jr. Aun Lubbic 1930”. It is possible that “Lubbic” refers to “Lubeck”, a town in Germany. Additionally, the frame is stamped in a partially illegible lettering that appears to read “Thea. H. Abbott & Co.” “1885”(?). The painting is in good vintage condition, commensurate with age with no tears or repairs (see photos for documentation of condition). The painting shows well in all environments and with all periods of décor, and has an elegant and vital presence.
