Rose Dodds is a well-known Berkeley CA ceramicist and textile artist and this wonderful 1970's piece is striking in its graphic treatment as well as its fine proportions. Measuring approximately 8" tall and 5 ¼" wide it features an asymmetrical lid. The glaze is noteworthy in its integration with the lid and its Asian-influenced motif reflects aesthetics specific to Northern California 1940's- 1960's (California College of Arts and Crafts, U.C. Berkeley, and San Francisco Art Institute). The piece is in good vintage condition save for a crack to the lid (pictured), which is skillfully repaired. Dodds' covered bowls are rare, and this wonderful piece stands out as a fine example of Bay Area ceramics.
