For your consideration, a pastel on watercolor drawing by Joyce Brown Clark (American, 1916-2010). The work on paper features a Hawaiian landscape in which dark lava-black hills are juxtaposed with pastel renderings of foliage and sky. The 1976 drawing is signed and notated, with artist’s stamp and is in excellent vintage condition. The work measures 6” x 4” and is housed in its 7 1/4” x 5 ¼” original 1970’s Plexiglas frame. Guaranteed to be by Joyce Brown Clark.
Joyce Brown Clark was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 29, 1916. Joyce Brown grew up in Laguna Beach and studied painting there with Bennett Bradbury. After her education at UCLA, she was a commercial artist for several years before turning to oil painting and mosaic murals. In 1939 she married Marshall Clark and continued living in Laguna. From 1970-95 she lived and worked on the island of Maui. She then continued painting and lived in Sunriver, Oregon until her demise in 2010.
