For your consideration, a tempera on paper painting depicting a rural farm boy smelling spring blossoms. This finely rendered work is clearly of the illustrative genre, and features expert draftsmanship and a sophisticated color palette. The work very closely resembles a Saturday Evening Post magazine cover by the noted American illustrator Howard Scott . The painting is signed “Kelley” “ “45’”; the quotation marks possibly eluding to the post WWII “springtime” of that year, 1945. The painting measures 11” x 10”, 19” x 16 ½” framed. The work is in excellent vintage condition commensurate with age, and there is a small tear, which has been stabilized with tape on verso. There are notations on the verso that are most probably publisher’s identification markings (see photos). A very fine post war American illustration, acquired in Northern California.
