Based in Mexico City, Casa Maya masterfully combined copper and brass with enamels, stones and ceramic beads in innovative modernist designs. Often referred to as "The Kiss", the buckle consists of two mirrored faces (possibly based on a portrait of King Pacal of Palenque). Made of hand-hammered brass and copper and adorned with vibrant polychrome green enamels and featuring a huge teardrop dangle. This mid century masterpiece measures 7” x long, with a width of 5 ½” . The dangling teardrop hammered mixed metal medallion measures 2 7/8” x 2” x 3/16th . The buckle is designed to be attached to a 1” belt that has a standard tang on one end to secure it; most probably easily crafted by any competent leather worker. The buckle is excellent vintage condition and an extremely collectable mid century example of “functional art”.
