For your consideration, an evocative watercolor by the noted watercolorist Lee Marion Splivalo (1917-1963). The subject is most probably of the reflecting pool in the Marina district of San Francisco, though it could also be of Sausalito, and is most probably created between 1935-1955 and is signed “Splivalo A.W.S.”. The work is noteworthy for its subtle color palette and elegant and vital composition and is in excellent vintage condition with no foxing, rust, or damage. The piece measures 18 ½” x 12 ¼” within its 24 ¾” x 18 ¾” original and unique gesso painted linen and wood frame. Born in San Francisco, California on March 3, 1917, Splivalo was a long-time resident of Oakland and a member of the American Watercolor Society. He painted scenes of the San Francisco Bay area while working as an accountant. He died in Oakland on Feb. 6, 1963. Exhibitions: SFAA, 1954; Claremont Hotel (Berkeley), 1956 (solo); Oakland AA, 1960.
