For your consideration, a circa 1958-68 vase designed by Erkki Vesanto (1900-1990). This fine and rather rare work by Vesanto measures 8" tall and is 3 ½" in diameter at its widest tapered dimension. The piece is noteworthy for its impeccably modernist aesthetics and superb workmanship. The piece displays a sommerso gray color and distinctive peaked pontil area and a finely beveled mouth. The vase is in superb condition with no chips or damage (there is one minute stress bubble, common to these pieces) and is identified with signatures at is base that read "Erkki Vesanto 3656" . The work is sometimes referred to as the "Maljakko Vase" and is from Iittala's Lappi-Sarja series.
