Douglas Fenn Wilson For your consideration, a work of Northern California painter and assemblage artist Douglas Fenn Wilson (. This fine work created in watercolor on paper and board, measures 17 ½” x 11 ½”, and is signed “Douglas Fenn Wilson ‘84”. The powerful patron-commissioned multi-tiered watercolor assemblage is of a stately residence and it’s gardens amidst palm trees and buganvilias. The lower portion of the assemblage is composed of a three-dimensional field of painted and board-mounted “tiles” that are affixed to the painting surface on several tiers; the resulting combined layers create, simultaneously, a sense of both calm and disjointedness. The painted tiles are of differing geometric shapes and are each composed of individual painted color fields painted on paper, which in then mounted on cardboard and affixed to the paintings main body. This early Wilson piece is a testament to Wilson’s mastery of figurative painting as well as reflecting his unique signature method of integrating three-dimensional elements to the environments of his paintings. The piece is skillfully and artfully crafted and the assemblage is in excellent condition. In Wilson’s words, “I paint, compose, from a point of view of one standing apart from the present — in some imagined future, looking back at the still frames of my life—moments of captured and remembered beauty — their pasts dissolving into eroded structure, into archeology, the future peeled away and still peeling, until all that’s left is a fabulous glimpse of a present that was." This is a rare opportunity to purchase an early work by this well-known Northern California artist.
